StarTool DA provides intelligent dump analysis and debugging for mainframes. It helps developers diagnose the cause of ABEND conditions through automated dump diagnostics, interactive call tracing support, dump archiving and maintenance, and a full-featured debugging interface.
Batch, CICS, DB2 and IMS
StarTool DA supports analysis and debugging of both batch and CICS ABENDs. Optional debugging support for IBM DB2 and IMS database ABENDs is also available.
Detailed Analysis and Reporting
StarTool DA displays failing instructions down to the source code level. It manages the archival and retrieval ABENDs and monitors trends over time to deliver high availability for infrastructure and applications.
Comprehensive File and Data Management
StarTool FDM gives you a comprehensive environment for editing and managing PDS, PDSE, sequential, extended sequential, direct, DB2, and VSAM files (including their contents). StarTool FDM simplifies file management tasks and eliminates the need for multiple tools, batch utilities, and homegrown routines within the data center.
Broad Editing Capabilities
StarTool FDM provides a broad set of editing capabilities. You can copy like files to unlike files, and copy subsets of files based on user-defined selection criteria. Full-screen copybook editing lets you edit individual VSAM records within the context of a COBOL or PL/I program's copybook record layout.
Additionally, StarTool FDM provides global search and replace, restoration of accidentally deleted items without reverting to backup tapes, and expiration of PDS directory blocks or addition of data set space. You can quickly add, delete, update, and insert records in a VSAM data set. You can even pad records with blanks, binary zeros, or any other value.
Integrated I/O Optimization
StarTool DA dynamically tunes the major components of application processing functions to achieve dramatic throughput improvements. It replaces or enhances SDB's reblocking function and performs reblocking on all sequential data sets, including managing programs with hard-coded DCBs.
StarTool IOO allows programs written in any language (including COBOL) to use Local Shared Resources (LSR) when the program is dynamically or randomly accessing a VSAM file.
StarTool IOO dynamically optimizes buffers and start I/Os for QSAM, BSAM, and sequential EXCP I/Os, improving performance as much as 75%. It optimizes physical sequential data sets, permanent and temporary, including data sets generated by most utilities. With StarTool IOO, you can save up to 50% elapsed time for DB2 unloads and reloads, and up to 40% elapsed time for IDMS sweeps.
Dynamic Memory Management
For programs that are coded in assembler and already use native LSR, the perfect quantity of above the 16M line buffers and hyperspaces are transparently allocated based on file size. For all LSR processing (NSR-LSR or LSR native), a separate LSR pool is used for each file (up to 255 LSR pools allocated) to eliminate buffer stealing. StarTool IOO detects when applications change processing modes from direct to sequential and reoptimizes the tuning parameters.
